1. The Boring Sermon -
To most Church attenders today, there is NOTHING WORSE than a boring sermon!!! Now Paul I imagine was not boring!!! Some of his writings indicate, that he wasn’t the greatest speaker ... yet, we know to he was very much into his Subject! To the Philippians Paul wrote -
NKJ Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”When a speaker is that whole-heartedly into what he is speaking about, he is very rarely boring. Perhaps sometimes people are bored with sermons, because they are bored with Christ Himself? If this be the case, the problem is not the preacher’s, but the hearers. Yet, if the preacher himself is bored with Christ ... Oh, what a dire situation ... one much to be cried over! Yet, probably not THE WORST situation, for such a preacher will not likely draw much of a crowd, a few people will be harmed by his lackadaisical religion.
2. The Cocky Preacher’s Sermon -
NKJ 1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
What is wrong with the Cocky (or SELF-confident) Preacher’s Sermon? (1) If it is good it causes men to praise men rather than God! “Oh, what a wonderful preacher we have” ... “great sense of humor” ... “Oh, he is soooo intelligent!” ... “So eloquent!” preachers who are particularly gifted, need to guard themselves from pride, and self-sufficiency. For (2) A Cocky Preacher’s Sermon will ALWAYS lack the Power of God!
3. The Doctrinally Incorrect Sermon -
Paul wrote to the Galatians -
NKJ Galatians 1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
Other Gospels, proclaimed by the Cults - Moonies, Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, etc... and sometimes by seeming “Christian” ministers, are extremely dangerous! They lead people astray, and condemn speaker and hearer alike, yet EVEN THESE MAY NOT BE THE WORST SERMONS IN THE WORLD!!!!

The worst sermon in the world is not only a doctrinally incorrect sermon, but it is a doctrinally incorrect sermon, in a very devilish subtle way.
The worst sermon in the world promises “Peace”, (Peace with God) “when there is no peace.” The worst sermon in the world promises peace without repentance, peace without that spiritual change of heart brought about by the New Birth!
The worst sermon in the world tells sinners, and convinces them, they have no reason to fear hell, even if they continue to live in their sins. The worst sermon in the world, is one that makes everyone feel “really good!”, when it should be making them feel “really bad!”
The worst sermon in the world is one that “heals a hurt slightly”
It gives the spiritual equivalent of take two aspirins, when what is really needed, is spiritual heart surgery!!!!!!!
It tells people, ‘walk the isle of a church’, ‘raise your hands’, ‘close your eyes’, ‘say the right words’, DO THIS ONCE and you’ll will surely be saved ...(no matter how you live after!) While Jesus says, “take up your cross daily and follow me”
God says we need spiritual heart surgery only He can do, we need to repent!!!
The Best Sermon is one that SPEAKS THE TRUTH IN LOVE!!!!
It tells people about the sins they have committed, tells them of the GREAT NEED FOR Christ!!!
The worst sermons tell people what they want to hear!!!! “You’re well on your way to heaven!”
The best sermons tell people what they need to hear!!!
