Upon noticing and photographing the "earthrise" (above) Apollo 8 astronauts - Frank Bowman, James Lovell and William Anders marked the event's significance and it's occurance on Christmas Eve by reading the Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth"
