Morning Sermon Outline
“The Great Imperative: You Must Be Born Again”
John 3:1-13

I. Note “to whom” the Great Imperative is presented

1. To a Pharisee :1
2. To Nicodemus :1
3. A ruler of the Jews :1
4. A teacher who should know these things :10
5. In presenting this truth to Nicodemus Jesus is presenting it to all of us

II. Note what is said about the nature of the new birth

1. It is an absolutely necessary thing
2. It is a mysterious spiritual thing
3. It is a dramatic and powerful thing
4. It is a Divine, heavenly thing

III. Consider what this means to us: How can we be born again?

1. It is not something humanly doable!
2. There is no formula for it
3. We should realize our helplessness
4. Pray!
5. Look for the mark of God in our lives!
