The Morning Sermon Outline
“How Do You View the Birth of Christ?”
Luke 2:1-20
It is an often-asked question, “what is the true meaning of Christmas?” The answer you will get depends a lot on the answerer’s point of view, and people see Christmas in many different ways. Even Scripture presents a few different “VIEWS” of Christ’s birth. We can learn from all of them, yet, only one of them is right!
I. The Earthy View, the viewpoint of an ungodly world, those with this view “MISS” Christ –
1. These people admire Augustus Caesar – Luke 2:1-3
2. They miss Christ – Isaiah 53:1-3; Luke 2:4-7
3. The cross is foolishness to them – 1 Corinthians 1;18
II. The Hell-Born View, the viewpoint from the pit, those with this view “HISS” at Christ –
1. The view of the Serpent – Genesis 3:14-15
2. The view of the Dragon – Revelation 12:1-6
3. The view of Herod – Matthew 2:1-15
4. The view of Pharaoh (king of Egypt) and Haman – Exodus 1:15-20; Esther 3:1-15
III. The Heavenly View, the view from Above, those with this view would “KISS” Christ –
1. They know Christ is greater than Augustus (or any other human or creature). What is wonderful about Luke 2 is its fulfillment of Divine prophecy – Daniel 2:44-45; Micah 5:2
2. They know He will gain victory over the Devil – Psalm 2
3. They count Him worthy of praise and song – Luke 2:8-20; Revelation 5:8-10
4. They follow Him as King of kings – Revelation 17:12-14
5. Let us have this view as our view –
A. Let us depend on the Bible more than television for our view of Christmas, and of the world!
B. Let us seek to know the view Scripture presents well enough to communicate it to others!
