Understanding the Resurrection

Morning Sermon Outline
”Understanding the Resurrection”
John 11:1-44

I. In order to understand the Resurrection you first have to have a Biblical understanding of death!
1. Our society as a whole does not have a good understanding of death:
A. Many think of it as a natural end of life rather than the wages of sin – Romans 6:23
B. Many delude themselves with false hopes of a peaceful or comfortable after-life, though they have no relationship at all with Jesus Christ
C. Our society hides death from our eyes and noses – John 11:39
D. Apart from Biblical revelation, our society has no understanding of death or the after-life at all, heaven and hell cannot be put under a microscope!

II. The Bible tells us a great deal about death and the after-life!
1. It is from the Bible that we learn that death is a punishment for sin – Genesis 2:17; Romans 6:23; Genesis 5
2. It is from the Bible we learn there is an after-life, either a greater and continued death and dying in Hell – Revelation 14:10-11; Mark 9:42-48 or a continued living (wonderful life) in Heaven – Revelation 21:1-4; John 14:1-6
3. It is from the Bible that we learn the Way of Life is Jesus Christ – John 14:6
4. Christ, His Death, His Resurrection are central in the teaching of Scripture, Old and New Testaments -

III. According to Scripture getting to Heaven (eternal life) depends on Who you know –
1. Eternal life is dependant upon a relationship with Jesus Christ – John 17:3
2. Christ, rather than Adam must be our Federal Head – Romans 5:12-19
3. Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life – John 11:25-36
4. We should press on toward knowing Him, attaining His resurrection – Philippians 3!
