Morning Sermon Outline
“The Door”
John 10:1-10

I. Not meant to be a cute or sentimental description of Jesus
1. This passage continues the battle with the Pharisees who are the thieves and robbers in Jesus’ allegory.
2. It is most likely meant as a comfort for those like healed blind man of chapter 9 who were kicked out of the synagogues
3. Its pastoral imagery is taken from real life
4. Its pastoral imagery is taken from Old Testament themes

II. The image of Christ as THE DOOR is an important one
1. He is the Door that opens to abundant life – John 10:10
2. He is the Only Door – Acts 4:12
All other doors open to destruction, frustration
3. As the Door / Shepherd He is our protection / security
A. From thieves and robbers
B. From ourselves
4. Christ’s comparing Himself to a Door shows the extremes He is willing to go through for us

III. Consider those who enter this Door
1. They are His sheep who hear His voice and call
2. They are His sheep that He leads (they follow)
3. They are not limited by race or class
4. They are known and called by name
5. They are blessed to be under His care
