“The Serious Sin of Homosexuality”

When we look at Genesis 19 and the picture it presents of Sodom and Gomorrah, more and more we see a picture we recognize in our own country and modern world. In Massachusetts right now National Homosexual Groups are gathering along with the ACLU to fight in a lawsuit against David Parker and other parents who merely wanted to be notified about homosexual propaganda being brought into their 1st Grade child's classroom. In Minnesota, a male homosexual announced himself homosexual in front of his classroom full of 8 year olds telling them of his plan to adopt children with his male partner and the rightness of it. In Philadelphia, schools proclaimed October “Gay and Lesbian month.”
What do homosexuals want?
1. They want us to repent
2. They want our children.
Should we repent or should they, what does the Bible say?
I. What does the Bible tell us about homosexuality -
1. Homosexuality is a symptom of rebellion against God –Romans 1:18-31
2. Homosexuality is a horrid thing is the sight of God – Leviticus –Leviticus 18:22; Genesis 19:5-8
3. Homosexuality goes against the created order – Genesis 1:26-28
4. Homosexuality is a sin worthy of death / judgment –Leviticus 20:13; Romans 6:23
5. Homosexuality is a sin that keeps people out of God’s Kingdom – 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
6. It is a sin that can be repented of – 1 Corinthians 6:11
II. How does the Bible say that we as Christians should respond to homosexuals? This applies to relating to any sinner!
1. Love your enemies – Matthew 5:44-48
2. Love with a true love – Romans 12:9
3. Love with a love that is a call to true holiness – Hebrews 12:14
4. Love not with a “peace, peace” kind of love – Jeremiah 8:11
5. Love with a spiritually loud, God empowered love – 1 Corinthians 13; Ephesians 6:10-20
III. We need this God empowered glorious love because sinners have surrounded us –Genesis 19:4
Consider they are coming at us through:
1. Changing public opinion – their six point strategy Written out by Homosexual Activists Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen
A. Talk about gays and gayness as loudly and as often as possible
B. Portray gays as victims not aggressive challengers
C. Give homosexual protectors a “just cause”
D. Make gays look good
E. Make (so called) victimizers look bad
F. Solicit funds from corporate America
They accomplish these things through -
2. Entertainment -
3. Government / new laws
4. Education – “the fear of the religious right is that the schools of today will be the governments of tomorrow. And you know they are right. If we do our jobs right, were going to raise a generation of kids who don’t believe the claims of the religious right” . Speakers at the Gay, Straight Educational Network Conference
5. Ungodly Churches
IV. What should we do?
1. We need to pray -2 Chronicles 7:14
2. We need to do what we can –James 1:22
3. We need to speak up as God gives us opportunity
A. Intelligently –we need to be informed, we need to understand people are not “born gay”; only about 2% of our population practices homosexuality, that “tolerance” as they say, means they want to force their agenda down our throats!
B. Biblically –Psalm 119:11
C. Wisely –Matthew 10:16
D. Spiritually, armed with Christ’s gospel –Ephesians 6:12
E. Flee – Genesis 19:12-29
