“Light Shining Against the Darkness”
John 8:12-53
I. The Light Shines against false concepts of Christ
1. The Pharisees had false concepts of Christ, because they judged Him according to the flesh
2. We continue to have false concepts of Christ
3. We have a sinful tendency to try to recreate Him after our own image
4. We miss the mark when we do this – Isaiah 52:13-14
II. The Light Shines against false ideas concerning Christ’s origin
1. There is a tendency in sinners to see Christ as just a man
2. Yet, we must be careful not to misread, Light of the world; He is a LIGHT above the world
3. He is separate, Higher, Heavenly, He shines down on the world
III. The Light Shines with the Great Power of the Cross
1. In is the cross here that Christ is saying will bring light and life
2. It is the cross which is the POWER of God for our salvation
IV. The Light Shines against false faith
1. They seemed to have believed
2. Yet they still misunderstood
V. The Light Shines against sin by showing us the truth concerning our sad condition:
1. We are in bondage to sin
2. We are children of the devil
3. Knowing this truth can set us free
VI. The LIGHT (Christ) was real to Abraham
1. He also shown for Paul
2. He continues to shine, He is LIGHT in today’s dark world!
