The Morning Sermon Outline
“Christ, the Life-Giver and Judge!”
John 5:17-47
I. We need to know that Christ as the Son of God is a Giver-of-Life!
1. He has the power of God to give life - :17-20
2. He has authority from God to give life or condemn - :25-27
3. His life-giving power and authority are in His Voice and Word(s) - :24-25, and :28
4. Even the Bible is a life-giving book, it teaches the doctrines of life, it teaches about Christ - :39
II. We need to know that Christ as the Son of God is a Judge!
1. God the Father has committed all judgment to Him - :27
2. Christ is particularly fit for this office because He is the Son of Man - :27
3. As our Judge, and as the Son of God, Christ is worthy of great honor - :23
III. Christ substantiates these claims with the strongest of Witnesses –
1. The Witness of John the Baptist - :33-35
2. The Witness of His works, His miracles – :36
3. The Witness of His Father from heaven – :36
4. The Witness of the written word of God, the witness of Moses - :38-39; :44-47
IV. How should we respond to such BOLD CLAIMS from Christ?
1. First, in faith, believing for life and salvation –
2. Second, in Humility realizing He not you or I, is the JUDGE!
A. This seems to be where the Jewish leaders were mistaken
B. This is an area where Christ gives much instruction
3. Third, We should give Him His due in honor and worship
