Morning Sermon Outline
“Jesus’ First Miracle”
John 2:1-12
What do we learn about Jesus from His first miracle?
I. We see His transforming power
1. He changed water into wine
2. We cannot change ourselves – Jeremiah 13:23
3. But Christ can change us – 2 Corinthians 5:17
II. We see the gracious intent of His first coming
NKJ John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
NKJ John 3:17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
III. We see the wonderful unselfishness (self-denial) that characterized Jesus’ entire life and ministry
1. Only shortly before Jesus was fasting in the wilderness – Matthew 4:3
2. He lived a life free from the frills of materialism – John 6:27; Matthew 8:19-20
IV. We see a most admirable avoidance of display
1. If you had Jesus’ power, what would you do?
2. Notice how quietly He performs this miracle
V. We see the most glorious evidence that Jesus is the Son of God
1. See John 20:31
2. He Who initiated marriage here blesses marriage with His first miracle
