”The Good Shepherd, His Sheep & Non-sheep”
John 10:22-39

I. The setting and circumstances –
1. The Feast of Dedication - :22
2. Winter - :22
3. Temple - :23
4. Solomon’s porch - :23

II. The question - :24
1. Meant to trap Christ – “Surrounded Him”
2. Born out of a natural and sinful distrust of Christ, blames Him for their sin – Romans 8:7
3. Shows a lack of listening
4. Is typical of questions brought to Christ, even today

III. The Answer of the Shepherd
1. He already told them – :25
2. They did not believe, and seem to grow stronger in unbelief - :25
3. Because they were not His sheep - :26
A. Not quite the same as saying they were not elect
B. Still, they were in a dreadful situation
4. The dreadful situation of non-sheep seen in LIGHT of the privileges of Christ’s sheep
A. The sheep hear Christ’s Voice – :27
B. The sheep are known by Christ – :27
C. The sheep follow Him - :27
D. The sheep have eternal life – :28
E. The sheep will not perish - :28
F. The sheep are unsnatchable – :28
G. The sheep are safe in Christ’s Hand - :28
H. The sheep are safe in the Father’s hand – :29
I. The sheep are protected by the unity of God the Father and God the Son - :30
J. All the above the non-sheep lack!

IV. The response of the non-sheep – :31-39
1. They immediately want to stone Christ – :31
2. He slows their wrath with good questions / statements
A. Are they stoning Him for works? - :31
B. They would stone Him for words, but – Psalm 82:6 - :34
3. Christ escapes their wrath
4. This is more of a mercy toward these men than to Christ
