The Morning Sermon Outline
“Did Jesus Fail?”
John 6:1-71
I. Consider how well Jesus started –
1. He had multitudes following Him – John 6:1-2
2. He had miracles going for Him – John 6:2
3. His miracle of feeding the 5,000 was extremely impressive – John 6:10-13
4. He had people chasing Him, desiring to make Him King by force – John 6:14-15; :24-25
Yet, in spite of a glorious beginning by the end of His long sermon, He had only 11 true followers left – John 6:65-71
What happened? Did Jesus fail?
II. Consider, He did not give the what they wanted –
1. They wanted their faces fed – John 6:26
2. They wanted Him on their team – John 6:27
- It is likely what they desired from him was much more than physical food; they felt Him fit to rule and bless their earthly kingdom.
- Consider a modern day example -
3. Yet, He was and is God’s Authorized Dealer for an entire line of Heavenly merchandise – John 6:27
4. He was even Heaven’s Chief Product, the Bread of Life – John 6:35
III. Consider that what Jesus offered boggled people minds, consider it cannot be understood, seen, desired, known or relished without a special work of God –
1. This is Jesus’ GREAT anti-free will sermon
2. These people’s will were captivated by the things of this world
3. Their captivity blinded them to the value of the things of God
IV. Consider that what Jesus offered is exceedingly valuable and absolutely necessary –
1. Jesus offered Himself as the Bread of Life
2. As the Bread of Life, Jesus is more NEEDFUL to us than ordinary food
