Morning Sermon Outline
“Admiring Christ’s Glory”
John 1:14-18
Admire the “glory” true believers find in Jesus
I. It is a weighty glory –
1. Kabod means heavy, weighty, and important!
2. Lightning, thunderbolt, life and death type of importance
II. It is a praiseworthy glory –
1. Doxa means to have an opinion, make an evaluation
2. Particularly a praiseworthy evaluation
III. It is a one of a kind glory – “as of the only”
1. Christ is a one-of-a-kind Person
2. Christ’s glory is a spiritual glory
3. It is for this reason that no man can play the part of Christ, no picture can be drawn of Him, with even a slight hope of accuracy
IV. It is a glory that outshines any man’s
1. Well beyond mankind’s glory in general
2. Well Beyond John the Baptist’s (the last prophet) glory
3. Well Beyond Moses the first (mere human) prophet glory
V. Beyond Moses’ glory in important ways
1. The Law given by Moses
A. The Ten Commandments, the law which is a rule for living
B. The Pentateuch, the first five Books of the Bible
2. Grace and truth given by Jesus Christ
A. The law shows us our sin
B. Grace provides a remedy
C. The law provides shadows, pictures and types
D. Christ provides REALITY
VI. It is a divine glory –
1. Jesus is the Word made flesh, God in our language
2. He dwelt or tabernacled among us, this wording compares Christ to the Old Testament tabernacle, the dwelling place of God
VII. It is a bountiful, beneficial glory – “full of grace and truth”
1. An abundance is spoken of here
2. A profitable life changing power is mentioned here, we receive grace upon grace
3. Reality “Truth” is mentioned here
(1) Truth opposite all falsehood
(2) Reality opposite all shadow
Application:
1. Aim and pray to know Christ as He is presented Biblically
2. Aim and pray to be transformed by this knowledge
3. Aim and pray to appreciate Christ’s glory emotionally
